Feel Good - Fuel Better: Try These No-Bake Power Bites

Have you ever found yourself reaching for a snack during the day or after a workout, only to grab something convenient but not necessarily nutritious? You're not alone.

But here's the thing: those ultra-processed snacks aren’t just empty calories. They’re packed with sugar, refined oils, additives, and preservatives that don’t provide any real benefits to your body.

I’m a hiker, I like to do the occasional run and enjoy a walk. And I know from experience that not fuelling up before a workout can leave you tired, dizzy, even moody.

Why I Created These Energy Balls

As someone who loves hiking and staying active, I’m always looking for snacks that actually keep me going, something nourishing, easy to make, and made with real ingredients.

That’s why I started making my own energy balls. This latest recipe is one I’m especially excited about. It came together quickly, tasted great, and gave me the kind of fuel I need on the trail.

Whether you’re heading out for a hike, hitting the gym, or just want a healthy snack that’s easy to grab, these no-bake bites are worth trying. Your body (and your wallet) will thank you.

Why This Recipe Works?

These no-bake power bites are perfect for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, or anyone who’s trying to break free from the cycle of processed snacks.

Packed with simple, nutritious ingredients, they’ll keep you feeling energized, focused, and ready to tackle whatever comes your way. And the best part? You can make a big batch, store them in the fridge, and have them on the go!

  • Not too sweet on purpose: The subtle sweetness from the dates and prunes helps reduce cravings and provides steady energy without the blood sugar spikes.

  • Oats: A great source of magnesium and zinc, oats are perfect for supporting your immune system, aiding in muscle recovery, and providing slow-releasing carbs for sustained energy.

  • Prunes & Dates: These fruits provide natural sweetness and are loaded with fibre, potassium, and antioxidants, supporting digestion, heart health, and overall energy.

  • Almonds & Peanut Butter: Packed with healthy fats and protein, these ingredients provide steady energy to fuel your workouts.

  • Dark Chocolate Powder: Rich in antioxidants, dark chocolate helps to reduce inflammation and boosts your mood by stimulating the production of feel-good endorphins.

  • Cinnamon: Not just for flavour, cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar levels, promotes heart health, and can give you that extra little boost of feel-good energy.

My Homemade Energy Balls with Dates, Prunes, and a Pinch of Cinnamon

Ingredients:

  • 50 g oats (ground)

  • 35 g almonds (chopped)

  • 10 g cocoa powder (plain dark chocolate cocoa powder)

  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

  • 35 g dates (chopped)

  • 35 g prunes (dried and chopped)

  • 100–120 g peanut butter

  • 20 g maple syrup

Preparation:

  1. Prepare your ingredients and have a plate and a clean storage container ready.

  2. Chop the oats, almonds, prunes, and dates into smaller pieces.

How to Make the Balls:

  1. Place all ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Mix well using a large spoon until everything is evenly combined.

  3. Divide the mixture into 10 equal portions, and roll each portion into a ball.

  1. If the mixture is too sticky, roll the balls in cocoa powder or chopped almonds to prevent them from sticking.

  2. Place the finished energy balls on a plate or refrigerate them.

Note: If you want some extra decoration, roll your energy balls in cocoa powder or almonds.

Tips:

  • If you don't feel like chopping almonds, you can buy ground almonds.

  • If you don't have maple syrup, try date syrup, rice syrup, or honey instead.

  • Store your energy balls in a sealed container in the fridge. They’ll stay fresh for up to 2 weeks (though mine rarely last that long).
